Why What You've Been Doing Up Until Now To Get Your Life Back After Cancer Treatments Doesn't Work, And What Does

April 10, 20255 min read

When I went through conventional cancer treatments back in 2006, I spent the entire time counting down the days for it to finally be over. When it finally came to a close, I thought that I could just slip back into life and resume normal transmission, but what I actually found is that life started to feel a whole lot harder, even more so than when I was in active treatment.

Not only did I feel bald and ugly, but to my absolute shock, I'd gained weight during treatment, and I was an emotional trainwreck. I had never felt more unhealthy, alienated and unsupported. I knew that more medication wasn't the answer to reaching my health goals, and that I would have to figure out how to get my healthy on my own.

Every week, I would drag myself to the supermarket and fill my shopping basket with superfoods, multivitamins, and anything else that promised to increase my energy and drop a few kilos, but despite my best efforts, it felt like nothing I did helped to lose weight, restore my energy or stabilise my mood, at least not in any noticeable way.

It took almost two years of experimentation, trial and error to finally crack the code, and in this article, I want to share with you some insights as to why what you’ve been doing to get your energy and life back on track after mainstream cancer treatments hasn’t made much of an impact, and what will.

Let’s cut to the chase… I know that you don’t need another coach preaching to you about the benefits of whole foods, blueberries, turmeric, quality sleep, regular exercise and stress management.

I know that you’ve already spent countless hours researching the benefits of an anti-inflammatory diet and eating to reduce inflammation in the body;

I know that you know melatonin, the powerful anticancer hormone is produced when you sleep, and your body gets to work healing and regenerating while you're in a deep sleep, and you wake up feeling refreshed and 100 x better when do (duh!);

I also know that you know about the benefits of exercise (c'mon! Seriously, who doesn’t?!), and

I know that you are doing the best you can to manage stress under what has possibly been the most stressful period of your life.

What you may not know is that if you have made some health-promoting changes following conventional cancer treatments, but they haven’t really moved the needle on the dial in terms of recovery, there are some very good, but not-so-obvious reasons for that.

You see diet, exercise and stress management are important aspects of the healing process and shouldn't be diminished in anyway, but there are other fundamental aspects of health that cannot be ignored, yet they are typically overlooked and frequently misunderstood particularly by the medical industry at large.

I know that you don’t need me to tell you that cancer treatments and all of the associated drugs, (anesthetics, antibiotics, steroids, anti-anxieties etc) damage the gut (by 'gut' I mean from the mouth all the way to the anus, and everything in between), and that they are incredibly hard on all of the organs and body systems.

And here’s the thing.

The organs of elimination rely upon a steady supply of nutrients in order to carry out detoxification and all of their vital processes;

However, as long as the digestive tract and gut remains damaged and in a state of dysbiosis, the absorption of nutrients will be limited, while some foods can even irritate and cause even more discomfort.

The net effect of that is that you can be eating and doing ‘all of the right things’ yet none of it will have much of an impact, and you’re left feeling frustrated and confused as to why nothing works!

Meanwhile, your body’s toxic load remains unaddressed, your body remains inflamed (which increases the risk of recurrence), and therefore you continue to feel run down, foggy, anxious, and constantly second-guessing everything that you’re doing.

This then makes you feel even more stressed, further impacts your nervous system in a negative way causing more dysregulation, and this also impacts digestion and the absorption of nutrients!

It's a vicious cycle, that perpetuates more stress, more anxiety, more bloating and on and on it goes...

Another common mistake I see people make after cancer treatments is that they don’t take a holistic approach, meaning one that addresses the WHOLE person. They typically focus all of their energy on the physical and mental aspects of health, but the truth is, we are more than that!

We are four dimensional - we have a physical body, a mental body, an emotional body, and we have a spirit. All of these parts make up the whole person, and all of these parts need to be healed.

The emotional links to dis-ease are very real and very common.

Just think for a moment about a time when your face flushed red with embarrassment, or a time when you felt like there were butterflies in your stomach because you were nervous.

They’re both examples of the physiological effects of emotions.

And this is what commonly gets overlooked. Emotions are energy. They are literally energy in motion and they are meant to flow through us just as electricity flows through a wire.

If that flow of energy is suppressed or disrupted for any reason such as when we fight back tears, the energy (the emotion) gets trapped in the body and this can manifest in physical symptoms like anxiety and depression.

A build up of suppressed emotions can even manifest in chronic illness, including cancer.

Nothing in the body works in isolation. It is all one big interconnected unit, and so you can be eating and doing ‘all the right things’ but if your emotional environment is off, that too, can impact healing and recovery.

What you really need is a plan for recovery, and a strategy to safely detox, de-stress, and heal the gut so that your body can start to absorb and utilise all of the wonderful, nutrient-rich food groups that you’re adding in.

This is when you will start to see real results.
